Meditation brings peace and relieves stress. Many are incorporating a corner at home for meditation. Some even dedicate a room to meditate and unwind in. While this is a good idea, you need to ensure the space is conducive to meditate in. The ambience should help you in your meditation efforts.

COLOURS IN MEDITATION ROOM
It is best to colour the walls of the room where you choose to meditate blue. The colour blue has a calming, cooling effect on people. The sky and oceans are blue. This colour aids in creating blissful relaxation. Even if one wall in the room is blue, or any shade of blue, it will serve the purpose.
The floor can be of any colour but make sure you spread something on the floor to sit on before you meditate. Preferably it should be a cushion or quilt. The idea is that you must feel comfortable and be at ease. You can’t focus if your legs are hurting.
LIGHTING IN MEDITATION ROOM
Since ages, teachers of meditation have been advocating using a lamp (diya) or a candle. Light is the symbol of emergence from darkness. It signifies that no matter how much of darkness there may be in the situations and circumstances of life, there is always a speck of bright light burning within yourself which can light up the darkness around you. It thus passes on a message – believe in yourself.
Lighting in the room must be kept dim. Bright lighting should be avoided. You can switch off all the lights and illuminate the room with only a few candles. You can also have floating diyas in a bowl filled with water.
Place flowers next to you while you meditate.
ACCESSORIES IN MEDITATION ROOM
Stones, pebbles, earthen or bronze statues of your choice are good here. Paintings on the walls should be chosen carefully. Make sure you don’t have disturbing paintings such as trees in the winter without leaves, frozen land with lots of ice around or wild animals attacking other animals. Avoid such paintings as they do not bring any pleasant thoughts to your subconscious mind.
Have plenty of indoor plants in the meditation room. The room should be well-ventilated. Keep the TV, computer and phone out of your meditation room. Keep the room clutterfree. Clutter hinders the positive energy flowing in.
CRYSTALS AS A PART OF MEDITATION ROOM
Different crystals have different colours. These natural colours are believed to increase your healing rate and spiritual growth. Consult an expert and find out which crystals suit you. You can wear crystals, hold them or place them around you while meditating.
